Timing
Subtitles have to keep pace with the audio in a video. When we write the subtitles in a Word document, we always include the timecode of each text fragment so that the person in charge of the editing knows where to put each sentence.
Summarized language
No one wants the subtitles to distract from the video itself. Usually you can’t do a literal translation of the audio because the screen would become overcrowded with text. At ONG Traducciones we summarize what is said in the video when preparing subtitles. This allows us to communicate the meaning of what is said in an efficient manner, ensuring that the audience does not have to read too much text.
Colloquial language
The language in a video is often very different from a written text because people generally speak in a more informal way. At ONG Traducciones we try to capture this colloquial language in our subtitles. It is important that the audience can fully understand what is said in a video because they speak normally (informal and colloquial language) and not like robots or politicians (formal language). By including colloquial language in our subtitles we increase the audience’s understanding of a video.
